Litter Free Norbury
The Clean & Tidy Environment We Deserve
Litter Free Norbury is a non-political, community-based charity looking to tackle issues with litter, fly-tipping and other environmental problems, such as graffiti, within the Norbury area.
The organisation was started at the end of 2020 and now boasts over 300 members across our different social media platforms.
We are engaging with residents about the issues they are seeing on the streets, with a view to looking at the causes and solutions, e.g., at specific fly-tipping hot spots.
We are also actively engaging with the council to highlight issues and seek changes and improvements, particularly in respect of the performance of the cleaning contractor, Veolia.
For example, we have been challenging the council in respect of:
-
The disappearance of many street-side litter bins in the area.
-
Issues with the significant lead-times for residents requesting new/replacement household wheelie bins, as well as missed waste collections.
-
Issues with lack of updates on reports made using the “Don’t Mess with Croydon” mobile phone application.
-
The lack of enforcement undertaken on fly-tippers and litterers.
Many of our members undertake their own individual litter picking activity, with some going out to help clean up the streets of litter daily. Additionally, as a group, we organise a group clean-up event every month around different parts of Norbury.
